Environmental and Sustainability Lead , Coventry Building Society Group

With over 15 years’ experience driving climate, energy, and carbon reduction strategies across finance, telecoms, and retail. I specialize in climate strategy, emissions reduction, and sustainability alignment with global frameworks such as the UN SDGs and SBTi. Since joining Coventry Building Society we’ve cut operational emission by 50% (2020–2024) and secured B Corp certification.

Why is EMEX valuable & why do you want to be on the advisory board?

EMEX plays a unique role in bringing together practitioners, innovators and decision-makers across the energy and sustainability landscape. What makes it particularly valuable is its focus on practical delivery, helping organisations translate net zero commitments into real, measurable action.

For me, joining the advisory board is an opportunity to contribute to shaping that conversation at scale. Throughout my career, I’ve worked at the intersection of strategy and delivery, whether that’s developing SBTi-aligned transition plans, halving operational emissions, or embedding sustainability into organisational culture.

I’m particularly motivated to ensure EMEX continues to reflect the evolving needs of organisations navigating complex transitions, balancing decarbonisation, cost pressures, regulation and social impact, so it remains relevant, inclusive and outcome-focused.

How can EMEX help shape the future of the sector?

EMEX has real influence because it convenes the people actually delivering change -from energy managers to senior leaders, creating a space where best practice can be shared and challenged. Its biggest opportunity is to move the sector forward in three ways:

- Bridging strategy and implementation - showcasing what’s working in practice, not just theory

- Accelerating collaboration - across sectors, supply chains and disciplines

- Building capability - equipping organisations with the knowledge and confidence to act

Given the pace of change in the UK energy landscape, forums like EMEX are critical in helping organisations keep up, avoid duplication, and scale what works.

One “small, boring change” that would make a big impact

Consistent, high-quality data and measurement. It’s not glamorous, but:

- You can’t manage what you don’t measure

- Poor data slows decision-making and undermines credibility

- Strong measurement unlocks better targeting, investment and accountability

In my experience, organisations that get the fundamentals of data, governance and reporting right are the ones that accelerate fastest.

What developments excite you most right now?

What excites me most is the shift from isolated sustainability initiatives to integrated, enterprise-wide transformation. We’re seeing real momentum in:

- The maturation of net zero transition planning, with stronger alignment to frameworks like SBTi

- Increased focus on scope 3 and supply chain engagement, which is where the majority of impact sits

- The emergence of smart, connected buildings and energy systems, enabling more dynamic and efficient energy use

But most importantly, I’m encouraged by the growing recognition of the just transition, ensuring climate action delivers positive outcomes for people and communities, not just carbon reduction
