Sekhar Chakraborty
I am a electrical engineer having 30 years of experience in Electrification industry in product management and marketing in global and local environment. For last 5 years I am leading the digital solutions of Electrification business in the UK emphasizing on improving energy efficiency and sustainability and reducing operational costs on site.
When I was working as a product manager, I personally experienced the challenges of identifying energy savings. The cost of submetering was excessive, installing the sensors caused downtime and analysing the data was difficult. These challenges motivated me to find a solution and we passionately created a simple and affordable solution to make monitoring easy. Thanks to our smart IIoT platform, thousands of customers in 50+ different countries have already saved on their energy bills and reduced industrial waste.
Why do you think Emex is a valuable event and why is it important to you to be a part of the advisory board?
Emex uniquely brings together energy managers, sustainability specialists, facilities management, and smart building professionals—breaking down silos that often slow decarbonization progress in organizations. With my current role at ABB in the UK energy landscape, advisory board participation positions myself at the intersection of technology innovation, market demand, and practical implementation—exactly where transformative change happens to shape industry direction by thought leadership.
What developments are you most excited about right now in (building and energy management)
AI-Driven Energy Orchestration - Smart buildings are evolving from passive monitoring tools to active decision engines. AI agents now autonomously generate work orders, track execution, and validate savings—massively increasing productivity for facility teams while reducing energy waste by 15-30%.
What would you preach to the industry: your one big thing everyone needs to hear?
How to perform a basic energy waste audit in your facility - Scrutinize your utility bill for clues / Visually inspect key equipment / The next step – accurately measuring your power factor - Find an easier, smarter and simpler way to get the data you need to take control?
