How can an event such as emex help shape the future of the sector?
This is a pivotal period for the energy sector as geopolitical changes shape the energy transition in the short and medium term. Events such as Emex are important in this context, as they help significantly in breaking down silos and showcasing perspectives from across the sector in one forum. The sector will be focusing on partnerships and value chain collaborations at this juncture of the transition, which will be hugely informed by such information sharing and networking.
What developments are you most excited about right now in business net‑zero initiatives?
The fact that value creation is rapidly becoming front and centre of sustainability. Whether that's through climate-related transition opportunities or increased integration of sustainability initiatives within core operations, the underlying benefits of longer-term security and business sustainability are coming to the fore, which strengthens the sustainability narrative and presents net-zero in a light that's far more relatable within businesses.
What would you preach to the industry: your one big thing everyone needs to hear?
As the old adage goes, 'never let a good crisis go to waste'. The current geopolitical situation could lead to newer perspectives on value chains, a reframing of the relationship between net-zero and energy security, and increased local investment. Businesses should pro-actively plan along these lines and avoid being on the defensive.
