Dr. Miguel A. Paya-Marin
Miguel has 12 years’ experience in the industry. Born in Alcoi (Alicante) Spain, he began his education in Alicante University with his first degree in Construction Engineering, followed by a Master’s degree in Materials, Water and Soil. Miguel then moved to Northern Ireland to continue his international education at University of Ulster, gaining a BSc in Architectural Technology and Management.
After this, he completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, at Queens University Belfast. As a building scientist, Miguel is an expert in sustainable buildings and innovation technologies. His main research interests are the environmental design of buildings, solar energy technologies (e.g. photovoltaics), thermal artificial lighting and Daylighting. When Miguel first joined Kingspan, one of the first challenges he faced was the refurbishment of the Kingspan headquarters in Kingscourt.
His role as an Architect and Project Manager was to redesign and rebuild the Kingspan headquarters, achieving a net-zero energy building. Using passive design and renewable energy technologies, the building was shortlisted for Irish Sustainable Project of the Year 2015. Miguels leads the link between the industry and academia, developing Kingspan academia, CPD presentations and mentoring graduate students Presenting at international conferences and publishing in international journals
