- What developments are you most excited about right now in (business net zero initiatives/for sustainability professionals)? (delete as appropriate)
I am excited for the positive evolution of carbon accounting and net zero standards that underpin everything that organisations do to plan and execute carbon reduction pathways. Big changes on the way that will fill in lots of grey areas and provide more clarity and consistency in the approaches being taken.
- What’s the one shift coming to the energy/sustainability landscape that you think most people are still underestimating?
The merging and harmonising of carbon accounting standards (e.g. GHG Protocol and ISO14064, SBTi V2, ISO Net Zero Standard) is going to provide a major leap forwards in the consistency and credibility of the measurements that underpin carbon reduction planning. It’s going to feel slightly overwhelming whilst everyone is working on the revised standards, but once we finish the job it’ll save us all a lot of time!
- Which small, boring change would make the biggest impact if everyone actually did it?
If energy, water and waste data were shared openly in both directions between commercial landlords and tenants then the opportunities to take meaningful action to achieve energy and waste efficiency savings would multiply considerably!
