The Future of the UK’s Environmental Governance

The Environment Bill is an opportunity to establish a new governance framework, potentially to put sustainability at the heart of the UK’s economic model.

It will have a critical bearing on future environmental governance, extending beyond climate change to embrace waste and resource efficiency, air quality, biodiversity, nature and water. We will consider the Bill, the proposed process for setting legally binding targets and the role of the new Office for Environmental Protection, along with scope for improving the Bill as it passes through Parliament.

  • The session is hosted by Simon Evans from Carbon Brief and with two presentations;
  • The Environment Bill, process and opportunity –  IEMA’s Chief Policy Advisor, Martin Baxter.
  • UK net zero transition: policy and environmental governance implications –  Executive Director of the Aldersgate Group, Nick Molho.
  • The session will conclude with a panel discussion lead by Simon Evans.
