The RNLI along with the rest of the world are seeking to find ways to reduce and mitigate the carbon impacts of our lifesaving activities and with a fleet of diesel fuelled boats and an estate of specialised buildings, factories and support centres the route to zero carbon is far from simple.

Whilst looking at options and strategies it has become clear that some changes would indeed reduce our operational carbon emissions but at the risk of incurring greater through life carbon emissions or creating other negative impacts which outweigh the carbon benefit.

Ensuring that the mission to reduce operational carbon emissions doesn’t unintentionally create a greater problem has led the RNLI to seek to achieve a sustainable and equitable decarbonisation of our activities.  This session will outline what this means and how we are approaching decarbonisation.
