Science-Based Targets: Scope 3 Emissions

Wednesday 24th November 2021

Theatre :  Scope 3  Sustainability and Net Zero

Net Zero and ambitious targets are becoming increasingly mainstream. However, one of the biggest challenges for committing, setting and meeting these targets is reducing Scope 3 emissions. CDP has found that, on average, GHG emissions in the supply chain are 11 times greater than direct emissions, with this being much higher in certain sectors, such as retail.

Our analysis also estimated one gigaton (a billion metric tons) of greenhouse gas emissions could be cut globally if disclosing suppliers increase the proportion of renewable electricity they source by 20 percentage points. This is a big step but achievable if suppliers are supported with the skills and experience which many energy managers have.

This panel discussion will focus on how companies are already on the journey using the lever of renewable energy to cascade decarbonisation down their supply chain.

  • Where renewables sit in target achievement strategy
  • Challenges faced when advocating energy switch with suppliers
  • Tools and tactics for supplier engagement on renewables
  • How to track or define progress & what constitutes ‘good’ supplier energy performance
