The disturbing truth about data center energy waste

It is probably telling that these days data-center managers think of the infrastructure under their care more in terms of the juice it burns and not by counting the server, storage, and switch boxes that consume that electricity and exhale heat. Ultimately, that power draw is the limiting factor in the scalability of the data-center and using that power efficiently can boost processing and storage capacity and also drop profits straight to the bottom line.

Data centre energy is a problem – and attacking Google, Facebook and Amazon won’t solve it, revealed the National Resource Defense Council that came out with a report on the energy used by data centres in the US.

The report, Data Center Efficiency Assessment has attention-grabbing infographics that put data centres in context and  makes suggestions about what should be done.
