Danson obtained his PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in the field of linear machines for ocean wave-energy conversion. Since then, he has worked on rail, mining and renewable energy projects both in South Africa and for National Grid in the UK. During his time at National Grid he led the definition of offshore wind connection process with regards to power quality and the development of the draft Engineering Recommendation ER G5/5 which is expected to replace ER G5/4-1 in the coming years. He has since worked at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) where he was responsible for the development and industrialisation of the Jaguar I-PACE traction battery as part of JLR's first electric vehicle programme.
